Recommended Information Technology High School Classes
Tech-Net- 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade elective

(Meets Online Learning Experience)
After completing this class students are prepared to take Microsoft’s Digital Literacy Certification Exam. The goal of Microsoft Digital Literacy is to teach basic computer concepts and skills so that students can use computer technology in everyday life to develop new social and economic opportunities for themselves, their families, and their communities. Whether you are entirely new to computing or have experience, this curriculum will help you develop a fundamental understanding of computers. From using the Internet to sending email or creating a résumé, the Computers and Internet Curriculum helps you develop the essential skills you need to use a computer with confidence. Students will create websites and other social media communications for personal and business use.

Microsoft Applications- 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grade elective

Part One of a one semester course. This course is designed to use a “hands-on”, individualized approach to teach computer applications focusing on Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook. Students will be prepared to get certified in the areas of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook Specialist, and Word and Excel Expert. A Microsoft Business Certification shows employers that you have the technical skills to solve real-world problems by using advanced features of Microsoft Office programs and Windows. It also provides a professional credential recognized around the world.
Certification: This course will help prepare students for Microsoft Office applications at proficient or expert levels. Through a grant received through MDE, students will test and be certified in any and all levels of Microsoft Office in the classroom.

Digital Media Illustration- 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grade elective

(Course counts towards fulfillment of the Visual, Performing and Applied Arts Requirement)
Grab a computer and join us in an exciting course to introduce you to illustration, design, advertising, and marketing using Publisher which is paramount in computer applications. This class focuses on being creative, thinking outside of the box and learning a variety of artistic concepts creating images in Adobe Illustrator. If you like to work with computers, and images of all kinds, you’ll love this class! You will learn how to create and design logos, build themes for a product, transform 3D images to 2D, work with vector images, design greeting cards, book jackets, and create medical artwork. This course has been designed to cover a wide variety of fine art topics as well as a preview to digital media techniques and other digital careers ranging from children’s book illustration to creating new phone and IPAD apps. The student who takes this course should be very comfortable with computers.
