TOOLS, GREASE AND COMPUTERS!

Begin a lifelong educational process in the rapidly evolving and increasingly complex field of automotive diagnosis and repair.

Automotive Service Technician is a one-year course open to sophomores, juniors and seniors. It is intended to give you an in-depth study of engine reconditioning, engine tune-up, and suspension and braking systems. This course can be used either as career preparation in automotive service or for servicing your own personal vehicles. You will be exposed to practical applications of scientific and mathematical principles as they relate to the automobile. You will have a variety of hands-on opportunities in mechanical service so you can put into practice what you are learning.

Automotive Technology is a two-year sequence course for 11th and 12th grade students. This course will prepare you for entry into the many fields of the automotive industry. Each year begins with a unit on automotive maintenance, tool and equipment use and shop safety. During the first year, electrical systems and engine performance procedures are covered. The second year covers braking systems and engine repair. Each unit is taught only every other year making it a priority to enter the class as a junior. However, seniors are welcome, too. Just like an actual business, students schedule jobs, order parts, write work orders, and deal with customer satisfaction in our school auto lab. Basic computer skills are recommended because there is an online learning experience in the program. This course provides an excellent background for many college level automotive programs. College articulation agreements are in place at ACC, Ferris State University, Nashville Auto/Diesel College and University of Northwestern Ohio.
