Opportunities in marketing have never been better. According to the U.S. Dept. of Labor, marketing and sales occupations are two of the fastest growing fields. The Marketing course will prepare you for the retail world. It involves developing personal marketing skills and techniques, preparing advertising and promotional activities, buying merchandise for resale in the school store, presentations from vendors, inventory control, creating displays and learning cashier skills. You will take what you learn in class and put it into practical experience in the school store.
The Advanced Marketing courses allow you to apply your skills learned from the prerequisite class, Marketing. You take your leadership and management skills to work in the school store, an actual school-based business, The Campus Closet. Learn by doing! Learn various selling techniques, cash register operations, customer service, advertising, inventory control, display and managerial decision making. Gain the skills you need for a future in sales and marketing.

This one year course is designed to provide training in developing a virtual sports and entertainment business through VEI. VEI entrepreneurs learn by doing! This simulated business replicates all of the functions and demands of a real business in both structure and practice, from product development, production and distribution to marketing, sales and human resources, finance and accounting. As “employees” of a virtual business, students are accountable for their company’s management and performance, through a web based banking system that connects 5,000 student run businesses around the world. Our school will develop sports and entertainment products “virtually” and will “sell” to other VEI programs around Michigan and the world! Our school may participate at a trade show event held in the fall/winter as well as sports/entertainment field trips. It is strongly recommended that students become members of the Alpena DECA chapter, a student organization designed to prepare students for the fields of marketing, merchandising, entrepreneurship, and management. Students may be responsible for personal expenses when participating at events beyond the classroom. Prerequisite: Marketing, DECA application and membership is strongly recommended.
